Funcom has announced that its eagerly awaited MMO, Age of Conan, has shipped 700,000 copies to retailers for day one, including 110,000 units of the sold out collector’s edition. The interest in this MMO is so high, that Funcom was unable to fulfill all orders in several markets due to server capacity limitations. More orders for servers have been placed.
Morten Larssen, Funcom’s VP of Sales & Marketing, said, "Everyone in Funcom is delighted and humbled with the historical pre-order numbers for Age of Conan. If the information we have is correct, they represent the highest pre-order number for any global launch of an original PC game, ever, including the original World of Warcraft launch,"
It looks like World of Warcraft has some challenging times ahead, as early reports show that Funcom’s new MMO could go all the way and challenge WoW as the number 1 MMO on PC’s.
Age of Conan is expected to release on Xbox 360 next year, check out our thoughts on console MMO’s right here.
