Redneck rampage aside, Georgia is serious about its commitment to growing their relationship with the game development and animation industry. According to Georgia’s Office of the Governor press release on May 12, 2008, “ATLANTA– Governor Sonny Perdue today signed into law the 2008 Entertainment Industry Investment Act (HB 1100), new legislation designed to encourage entertainment industry productions in Georgia.”
Looking at the game development companies listed as members of the Georgia Game Developers Association, “Game Development” is used very loosely. However, the signing ceremony did take place in Atlanta, at the headquarters of Turner Broadcasting System. As many know, TBS is also the owner of the struggling GameTap. So, I guess Georgia’s development scene could be considered "emerging."
Of course, all this comes on the heels of a press release from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources which extended the Level Four Drought Response, and urged residents not to underestimate its continued severity. I mean, I guess when choosing between loss of natural resources, or games, I think most of us would choose games.
