While recently speaking with VideoGamer.com, producer of The Force Unleashed, Cameron Suey, stated that the title is not being released for PC and most likely never will be. When asked why, Suey explained that the type of PC’s on the market is too wide and that trying to make the game for all of them would be of service to no one. By his logic, if the game were made for only high end PC’s others would have to tone their settings down and thus would not be getting the same experience. On the other hand, if the game were to be made for the lowest common denominator of a PC’s then those who invested a lot of cash in a powerful model would be the ones screwed over.
The fact that LucasArts is saying such things about the PC sounds pretty blasphemous, considering the rich history the company has on the platform. However, Suey assured everyone that the company has not forgotten its roots and isn’t abandoning PC’s for good.
“We started on the PC. Unfortunately that goes back to the point of such a variance of the platform. There wasn’t such a variance at that time and it made a lot more sense to develop on PC. The message is that we’re not shutting the door on PC at all.”
Regardless of LucasArts’ patting of PC gamers on the head and giving reassurance of their love, The Force Unleashed is being released on virtually every other platform in the galaxy, and no amount of excuses will prevent PC gamers from feeling just a little left out. The fact that the marketing behind TFU as a brand is so huge, to write off the PC may not only show potential development problems, but also that LucasArts feels there just isn’t enough money to be made on the platform.
