According to recent reports, Blizzard, creator of the popular game World of Warcraft, is suing Michael Donnelly for violating the Blizzard License Agreement. This may come as a shock considering it is very odd for Blizzard to be targeting one specific person when there are sure to be hundreds violating some portion of the license agreement.
What you may not know is that Michael Donnelly is the creator of MMO Glider, also known as the WoW Bot. MMO Glider plays World of Warcraft for you by completing key tasks while you eat, sleep, or are at work.
According to Blizzard, the software “infringes on their copyright and potentially damages the game.” Blizzard also added that bots turned into a resource hog because of the fact that most accounts utilizing the MMO Glider program stay connected to the server a lot longer than the typical gamer, thus assigning more and more resources to the bot. Donnelly responded by claiming that his software does not infringe on any copyright violations because he never made a copy of the Warcraft game client.
Both parties are currently awaiting a summary judgment in the case.
More information to come as it is released...
