Electronic Arts and Maxis formally announced the release date for Maxis’s most recent title, Spore, which will be available for purchase September 7th for PC, Macintosh, Nintendo DS, and mobile phones. In Spore, players are thrust into the biggest sandbox they have ever seen as they make their own organisms, mold them as they grow, establish connections that will start with the humble tribal unit and build up to entire civilizations, alter whole worlds into whatever way they see fit, and journey through universes that other Spore players have created.

To accomplish all this, Maxis will be providing players of Spore with a veritable flood of tools that can be used to alter all aspects of the universe the player creates for themselves, from creatures to various modes of conveyance, structures, and even UFOs. Once all this has been shaped to suit the player’s taste, they can share what they have built with other gamers all over the world.

Will Wright, the Chief Designer at Maxis, promised expectant gamers that “the wait is almost over” as the team at Maxis is “in our final stages of testing and polish with Spore, and the team at Maxis can’t wait to see the cosmos of content created by the community later this year.”
