Along with its latest financial results, EA has released their predictions on console hardware sales for 2008. The publisher has predicted that the Wii will continue its dominance, estimating sales between 12 million and 14 million units. EA’s vision for the Wii’s future probably isn’t very far off base from anyone else’s expectations; however, their estimates for PS3 and Xbox 360 sales are particularly interesting.

While the company is anticipating that the two systems will be tied in North America at 4.5 to 5.5 million sales, they are estimating that the PS3 will sell 5 to 6 million units in Europe, with the 360 selling just 1.5 to 2.5 million. Although some analysts have commented that the PS3 is just starting to find its way out of the woods, EA is predicting that it will see more success than the 360 in 2008. With strong titles like Killzone 2 and MGS4 (and if the rumor of a cheaper, slimmer PS3 holds true), it’s not hard to imagine the console becoming a force to be reckoned with against the 360. But why does EA seem to believe that the Sony’s winning battle will be fought on European soil? Only time will tell if their predictions are indeed true.
