Valve has announced today that CCP’s massively multiplayer online game, EVE Online, has now been added to the Steam service and is available for download. Those who purchase EVE Online from Steam will receive 21 days of free gameplay and will also be available for purchase at an exclusive Steam price and all Steam users who purchase EVE Online will be saving 5 dollars off their first full month of EVE Online playtime.
The VP of Sales at CCP, Magnus Bergsson, stated that the company is “immensely excited and honored that EVE Online will be the first MMO on Steam” before adding that “Steam has been the leading online distribution platform for a long time and home to some of the most dedicated gamers around, so we couldn’t think of a better fit for EVE Online."
Jason Holtman, Director of Business Development at Valve, added that “launching EVE on Steam means the addition of another fantastic PC game and the introduction of MMOs on Steam.” Mr. Holtman also stated that both CCP and Valve had a commitment to expansion as “the team at CCP continues to expand EVE’s universe and gameplay” while Valve strives “to expand Steam’s consumer and developer features.”
