One of the largest independent game developers issued today the first Quarterly Economic Newsletter about one of the largest MMOGs currently on the market. The report, prepared by CCP, examines the current status and the future direction of the in-game economy of EVE Online. The report was composed by Dr. Eyjólfur Guðmundsson who was accorded the title of lead in-world economist in June 2007. Dr. Guðmundsson was selected to study and collect data on the economic system within EVE Online as it grew and developed.
This first report studies and reports on several areas: demographics of the player, macroeconomics of the economy of EVE Online and the price levels in the EVE Online game. In addition to providing much useful information in regards to the development and movements of various forces within EVE Online but also provides a framework that can used for the authoring of other QENs in the future.
The good doctor will continue to study the data to track changes in the demographics of the game to see how they effect the in-game’s economy such as in-game race, ship numbers and classes, where the players congregate and skill point totals. He will also study money supply, purchasing power, and price levels. These combined together will paint a continually accurate picture of the development of the in game universe.
